The Foundation

There are many areas of charitable giving for school supplies.  The Tarrant County Back to School Round Up provides for many families in need.  The event is a well oiled machine and thousands are helped – and yet, "It is breaking our hearts," said organizer Kelli Rod, of the children who didn't get supplies. "The 12,000 folks pre-registered and we ran out of supplies just a day or so, ago," she said. The demand for back-to-school help keeps growing each year. Article found at http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/Some-parents-turned-away-at-free-school-supplies-event-in-Fort-Worth-100550074.html.  You see more help is needed.  The Unity One Credit Union held a program called “Gear Up 4 School Celebration” in which they gave free school supplies yet warned that you should “show up early to ensure you get them.”  Each year there is a growing need of our children for these school supplies.  Schools themselves can not provide these supplies as they themselves struggle with teacher supplies and books. 

These programs are outstanding and yet more is needed.  The Leon H. Pritzker Foundation would like to help in this.  The idea is that after all of the other charitable giving has been completed the foundation would begin.  The foundation will work with the school districts and the school principles in order to find the students that need the assistance. The foundation will start with three hundred students in both the Fort Worth ISD and the Eagle-Mountain Saginaw ISD, providing 150 children each district with free school supplies.  The hope is to be able to provide more and more each year till no student is without school supplies.  Our community is in need and the foundation is here to help with that need.  Each dollar donated ninety cents goes to the supplies for the children.   

The foundation is also working to find those outstanding teachers and recognize them.
